Introduction
WhatsApp is the world's most popular messaging platform run by Meta, with over 3 billion active monthly users worldwide. Given such a wide reach, it is a very useful medium for connecting and communicating with users when it comes to automation workflows. In this article, we outline five ways to integrate WhatsApp into your n8n workflows, with a focus on features, pricing, and ease of integration.
1. WhatsApp Business Cloud API

The official API is the most reliable way of integrating with WhatsApp, providing a scalable way to send messages at a fixed per-message cost. This API also works seamlessly with the n8n WhatsApp node, which is provided as standard on self hosted n8n, and n8n cloud. Both sending messages, and triggering on messages is supported. To use the API however requires registering for a Facebook Business account which has various requirements such as a registered business, and can take several days.
Pros: Official support, rich feature set, robust scalability, security.
Cons: Requires verified business, complex onboarding, usage costs.
Requirements
Must have a registered and verified Facebook Business Account which requires a registered business and related documents for verification.
Pricing
Pricing is based on a per-message model depending on the "category" of message. The pricing varies per category and region. For up to date prices you can check the official pricing page which includes a calculator. As an example, the table below shows a pricing snapshot for the United States as of the 7th of September, 2025.
| Category | Cost Per Message (USD) |
|---|---|
| Authentication | $0.004 |
| Marketing | $0.025 |
| Utility | $0.004 |
| Service | $0.0 |
n8n Integration
The official WhatsApp n8n node can be used to integrate out of the box.

2. Twilio WhatsApp API

Twilio is a WhatsApp partner that provides a third party layer over the official WhatsApp API. Twilio itself also offers other services such as SMS, Voice and Email, meaning this may be a good solution for those who (in addition to WhatsApp) need multi-channel deliverability all in one package. Much like the official API, a Facebook Business Account is required. n8n offers the Twilio node meaning that integration is relatively easy. Twilios pricing is the same as the official API with the Twilio fee on top, meaning it is more expensive.
Requirements
Requires verified Facebook Business Account linked through Twilio.
Pricing
Twilio charges per message sent/received. The cost is the same as the official API for the same categories. plus the Twilio fee. Up to date pricing can be found on the Twilio pricing page. The screenshot below is the price for 1,000 "Authentication" messages sent in the United States as of the 7th of September, 2025.

n8n Integration
n8n has the Twilio Node that comes as standard, that can send messages and react to triggers.

Cons: Significantly more expensive.
3. 360dialog WhatsApp API

360Dialog offers a value-add layer over the official WhatsApp API, with features such as message templates, automation, and webhook support. There is no official n8n node integration, meaning that some technical knowledge would be required to use their HTTP REST API. The monthly pricing subscription on top of the official API means this may be more suitable for those who wish to use a third party provider, and have high volume requirements which may be more expensive with a per message fee.
Requirements
Requires registered and verified Facebook Business Account
Pricing
360Dialog offers a subscription + per message based model. You pay the official API fees as well as a monthly subscription depending on your use case. Check the official pricing page for the most up to date pricing. The below image shows the pricing for the WhatsApp API direct access as of the 7th of September, 2025.

n8n Integration
There is no official node for 360Dialog, so integration must be done manually using the HTTP Request to call their API.

Pros: Scalable, fixed additional monthly pricing, additional quality of life features.
Cons: No official n8n node, requires manual API setup, more expensive than official API.
4. Ultramsg

Pros: Easy to set up, fixed monthly pricing.
Cons: Unofficial, limited in features and scalability. No official n8n node requiring technical knowledge.
Requirements

5. WAHA

WAHA is an easy-to-run WhatsApp HTTP API, which comes with a community node allowing for easy integration with n8n. As a self-hosted solution, it needs set up and hosting which requires technical skills and potentially additional costs. As with Ultramsg, this is an unofficial API and therefore you should review the WhatsApp terms of service carefully before using it as there could be a risk of account suspension.
Pros: Free core version with no message limits, self-hosted offers control, community node available.
Cons: Unofficial API, requires self-hosting and maintenance.
Requirements
None
Pricing
WAHA Core version is free with no message limits as it is self-hosted on your own hardware. Users can make a donation in order to upgrade to the Plus or Pro version, which offer some additional features such as more sessions, the ability to send media, and priority support. From the documentation, the donation is valid until the next WAHA upgrade, which can be every 3-6 months, meaning it is not a one time deal.
